Firmware watch: RIVAGE PM V7.10 lands with two known issues

Three updates worth knowing about this week. One of them you might want to skip.

Yamaha RIVAGE PM V7.10

RIVAGE PM firmware V7.10 is up on Yamaha's download page, and V7.00 has moved to the previous-versions list.

The additions are modest. Shure SLXD4+ and SLXD4D+ join the Dante supported-device list, which matters if you have been speccing the new SLX-D+ receivers and waiting for the console to see them natively. There are new OSC commands for input channel digital gain and phase. AFC Image is now called Sound xR Image. On the console side, CS-R10, CS-R10-S and CSD-R7 now support internal OS V4.00, and CS-R5 supports V4.05.

The fix list runs longer than the feature list and reads like a normal maintenance pass. Sends-on-fader behavior in DCA mode, a scene recall that failed over OSC when the scene comment ran to 65 characters or more, a MIX/MATRIX send popup that misbehaved on drag.

Now the part that matters. Yamaha is shipping V7.10 with two known issues posted at the top of the download page.

REC OUT produces no audio when configured in the RECORDING PATCH screen. If you use RECORDING PATCH or VIRTUAL SOUND CHECK, Yamaha's own guidance is to roll back to V7.00 until it is fixed.

AES/EBU inputs and outputs do not work on CS-R5 units whose model number ends in A or B. Same advice.

Virtual soundcheck is not a nice-to-have on most of the gigs where a RIVAGE turns up. Read the notice before you touch the touring rig. If you are mid-run, there is no reason to take this one at all.

JBL Performance Manager 3.3.0

Performance Manager went to 3.3.0 on July 27. VTX B35 and B35G support is now complete, so the subs stop being a special case in your file. You can override the automatically suggested presets when the software's pick and your ears disagree. There is amplifier thermal monitoring, and DSP activity indicators that show at a glance what is actually processing.

This tool had been quiet for a long stretch. First real movement on it in months.

Martin Audio VU-NET 2.3.4

VU-NET is at 2.3.4 as of this month. iKON amplifier firmware is unchanged at 1.700, so this is a control-software update only. Leave the amps alone.

What we're watching

Kemper posted an OS 14.2.0 public beta on August 4. It is a beta, so nobody should be running it on a show, but the stable release is presumably not far behind.
